Post WWII Commercially Manufactured M1 Carbines (U.S.A.)

So far only one of these carbines has been found. The carbine and it's serial number are consistent with those manufactured by Iver Johnson Arms of Middlesex, NJ. The serial number is in sequence with the Iver Johnson M1 Carbines manufactured about 1981. Shortly thereafter Iver Johnson was acquired by a group of Arkansas investors and moved to Jacksonville, AR in 1983. NATO may have been a prospective buyer of the company or a contract for carbines manufactured by Iver Johnson. This may be only one of a very limted number presented to prospective buyer(s).
Attempts to identify NATO and the company name these initials may represent have so far failed to identify the company.
